African Safari

July 2023

Kenya and Tanzania

In July of 2023, we took a Trafalgar Tour called African Safari to Kenya and Tanzania for 2 weeks.

We spent 1 week in Kenya and 1 week in Tanzania. We traveled on the Serengeti Plains.

Traveled by land cruiser jeep with 4 other people. Driver took us to game reserves and national parks.

We spent hours every day in the jeep and saw every imaginable African animal in their natural habitat.

Went to the Giraffe Centre

our first day in Nairobi

 The Black Rhino

Game Reserve

We toured a vast preserve that was totally

dedicated to Black Rhinos,

and we saw dozens of them in small groups.

On the Serengeti Plain we saw impalas, wildebeests, giraffes, zebras,

elephants, water buffalo, birds of all kinds, including owls, warthogs, lions,

cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, crocodiles, hippos, eagles, vultures

We came across lions that were resting on the savanna

and they seemed oblivious to us in the jeeps,

taking pictures, as they were close enough to touch.

While riding in our jeep, down a dusty road, in the middle of the Serengetti Plain, we came upon the start of The Great Migration. Millions of wildebeest and zebras travel across the plains, starting in July through the end of October. We could see in the distance all the animals headed our way. Ahead of us, wildebeests and zebras were crossing the road, blocking our jeep. We watched for 30 minutes as an endless stream of animals, running, crossed the road. A sight we only got to see previously on TV specials.

Maasai Village

In Kenya, Drake got involved in

a jumping dance with

some male Maasai villagers.

We traveled over a 1000 miles by jeep through both countries.

We spent our nights at safari camp sites and nice hotels.

The Serengetti Plain was dotted with baobab trees and various

birds including storks, vultures, ostriches, and local birds.

Traveling on the dusty roads in the reserves, we were always catching

a glimpse of groups of iconic African animals. It was a feast for the eyes.

An iconic baobab tree,

an abandoned termite mound,

giraffes, and a cheetah hiding in a tree.

Every day we felt we were in a

National Geographic Special that highlighted iconic African

animals in their natural habitats.

We were fortunate to be able to view these wild animals and

appreciated their majesty and beauty.
